Often called “abstract” art, this is
when an artwork no longer represents recognizable natural forms. 
The artist works directly with line, tone, and color as an end in
itself, not as intermediaries to copy/depict something from the
environment.  The Non-Representational line can be thought of as
a progression of possibilities between the extremes of order
and chaos.
